Pearce, Alexander, leader of the eight escapees (Alexander Dalton, Thomas Bodenham, William Kenelly, Robert Greenhill, James Brown, John Mathers, Mathew Travers. With Greenhill persuaded the tired and hungry group to accept cannibalism. They murdered Dalton. Brown and Kennelly went ahead to survey the way. Bodenham was the next murdered, then Mathers and Travis and finally Greenhill. Pearce was captured and hung in 1824.

Whitehead, John, lead the biggest gang of all when Lt Gov released prisoners to live off the land after non arrival of stores from Sydney in 1805. Those with Whitehead did not return when provisions arrived. In October 1814 he was shot dead by soldiers and Howe took over the gang.
