Allan Moffat
Allan George Moffat was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada on November 10, 1939. His first race was in a Triumph TR3 in the United States. His first Bathurst race was in 1969 where he drove for the Ford works team but ruined his race chances by racing on untested tyres and came 4th. But the next two years were different as he absolutely dominated and carved out the GTHO legend. In 1973 Ford withdrew from motor sport and Moffat struggled somewhat, racing occasionally in Toranas, until 1977, where he engineered the famous Ford 1-2. In 1981 he started racing the Mazda RX7 which was to bring him the Australian Touring Car Championship but not Bathurst despite finishing second and third twice. In 1986 he teamed with Peter Brock in a Commodore and then formed his own Sierra team, which despite being front runners at Bathurst had no success. He still enters cars at Bathurst, and the very first pit bay is reserved for him.
