DJR Relief

1994 - DJR Relief

This is the moment the DJR pits had hoped for. Craig Lowndes, 20 year old rookie, had taken John Bowe around the outside of Griffin's Bend a few laps earlier in what Bowe has described as the best passing move ever made on him. Bowe was in a mild panic in the cockpit of the Shell car and had to be reassured he had the car to do the job. But Lowndes was actually opening a gap! On lap 149, when Lowndes came up to lap Greg Fahey in a VL Commodore at Murray's Corner, Fahey was unsighted and moved across on Lowndes. In taking avoiding action Lowndes lost speed up Pit Straight and Bowe seized his chance by diving under brakes at Hell Corner (picture).
