On lap 96 Johnson clashed heavily with the Everlast Commodore as he tried to lap it at Tooheys Turn. Bill O'Brien got out of shape at precisely the wrong time, and the two cars came together in the biggest possible way. The Commodore was extensively damaged, the Falcon completely destroyed.
