Peter Brock
Peter Brock was born in Hurstbridge, Victoria on the 26th of February, 1945. His first race was in 1967 in a wild looking Austin A30-Holden at Winton. In 1969 the Holden Dealer Team invited him to Bathurst to co-drive a Monaro, where he finished a creditable third. His name became synonomous with Bathurst after an extraordinary run of successes there in the 70's and 80's with the HDT. He split once again from Holden in 1987 (he had previously left the works team in the mid 70's) to join BMW and then he did the unthinkable, he drove a Ford Sierra (which is what just about everyone else was doing). He returned to Holden in 1991 as a privateer and finally rejoined the works team in 1994 when Holden needed his Mobil sponsorship money as much as they needed his driving talent. Before 1994 Brock had retired from the race due to accident damage only once, but he crashed out of the 1994 race, crashed in the 1995 Tooheys Top Ten and suffered several spins in the 1996 race.
