Science doesn't just happen in the classroom.

Within 100 kilometres of Narrabri there are numerous sites where real science is in action every day. The links below will introduce you to some of these places. But it doesn't have to end there. Many of these facilities offer tours and on-site information. Find out more. Organise a group of friends and go see for yourself.

My main teaching interests lie in the fields of Earth & Environmental Science and Biology but no matter if you are studying Year 7 Science or HSC Physics, you should find something of interest below that will take you out of your textbooks and into your community where science is happening.

 

Astronomy 1

30 kilometers west of Narrabri is the Paul Wild Observatory at Culgoora. Also called the Australia Telescope Compact Array. Site visits to this radio telescope facility are available 7 days a week.

100 kilometers south of Narrabri is the Siding Springs optical telescope facility.

Petroleum Exploration

40 kilometres west of Narrabri Eastern Star Gas is developing the Coonarah gas field near Yarrie Lake. Find out what this means for your community,

30 kilometres south of Narrabri, First Sourcenergy Group is exploring for coal seam methane.

Coal Mining

The Narrabri Shire sits above the large coal resources of the Gunnedah Basin. The nearest operating coal mine is at Gunnedah. Others are planed in the local area.
