Graduate Certificate in Gifted and Talented Education at UNE

- on campus or via distance education -

The GradCert-GATE is a specialised post-graduate qualification that also provides a direct pathway for teachers who may wish to pursue Masters or Doctoral studies in gifted education. The course will appeal to practising teachers already teaching gifted children or those wishing to develop special expertise in this field.

Special features of the GradCert-GATE at UNE are:

• It enables you to study in your own home at a time most convenient to you.

• It provides a specialist qualification containing a balance of theory and practice.

• An extensive web site of support material and helpful links is continually being developed and students have the opportunity to contribute to this.

• The Dixson Library at the University of New England holds an extensive collection of books and journals on gifted education.

• Some Units are available wholly or partly online
(currently Internet Learning for Gifted and Talented Children, and Social and Cultural Aspects of Giftedness and Talent).

• A pre-enrolment reading and Unit sample option is available.

• Completion is possible in two semesters of part-time study, but can be spread over three or four semesters to suit your circumstances.

• Students who already hold the MEd entry requirement qualifications may apply to transfer to the MEd during their GradCert candidature and count all of their completed GradCert units towards the MEd.

If you graduate with the GradCert and then decide to continue on to a Masters degree, advanced standing of one quarter of the MEd is normally granted, or one quarter of the MEd(Hons) if EDST495 is completed in the GradCert.

Who can do it?
