Aim:
The aim of this conference is for
participants to share their practical, effective, innovative
practice and research in teaching and learning for gifted and talented
students in
rural and regional Australia.

Workshops
or seminars:
Showcasing successful teaching and
learning practices provides motivational and relevant opportunities for
practitioners to share new strategies and ideas for supporting gifted
and talented students. Therefore, teachers, consultants, academics
parents and community members are invited to submit an outline of your
intended workshop, seminar or
discussion group. Workshops, seminars or discussion groups are to
showcase current innovative practices or research in gifted and
talented education, and differentiated practice and research for K-12
students.
Please fill in the registration forms, call for presentations
submission and send all workshop outlines to TalentEd@une.edu.au.
Learning
Outcomes of the Conference:
The following will be showcased by the end of the conference,
workshops, discussion groups and presentations:
1. current issues in gifted and talented education;
2. needs of rural and regional gifted children, parents and teachers;
3. models of identification specific to students’ gifts and talents;
4. curriculum differentiation models and strategies in action;
5. strategies for implementing policy and practice in schools;
6. sharing innovative practice;
7. contributing to the current Regional Gifted & Talented network;
8. and the option of using the conference as a basis for further discussion, action learning or research on gifted and talented student needs will be provided.
On-going
course options:
Following full participation in the introductory conference,
participants can choose one of a number of program options:
1. return to their school to continue their work and enjoy the products of the learning experience and make use of their network.
2. conduct an Action Learning Project in their school, participate in UNE videoconference workshops to further explore and develop Gifted & Talented Education understandings and also participate in internet discussion sessions.
3. report back on the Action Learning Project during a one-day UNE conference at the end of 2008, gaining additional materials and ideas from peers.
4. complete a written report of the project and publication for TalentEd journal to gain University (UNE) accreditation towards a higher degree (M.Ed).
Each participant will receive a certificate of participation for presenting at the conference.
Call for seminars, interactive
workshops or group discussions on innovative practice.
The conference organising committee invites interested professionals in the area of Gifted Education to submit outlines of presentations of workshops or seminars. The conference includes sessions suitable for tertiary educators, consultants, teachers, parents and a combined audience.
Preference will be given to those submissions which acknowledge and support the conference theme of "Potential to Performance: Celebrating innovations". Sessions should be relevant, positive and practical, and should follow the conference theme. Please download the 'Presentation Submission' form, complete and submit with your abstract. 1. Indicate type of presentation: Seminar presentation, Interactive workshop or round table discussion (45 minutes).
2. Title.
3. Abstract/outline (250 words).
4. Target audience: teachers, parents, academics or combined.
5. Focus group: early childhood, primary, middle school, secondary, tertiary.
6. Mode of presentation and hardware requirements: OHP, Whiteboard, Smartboard, PowerPoint, DVD. You may use your own laptops and are welcome to bring handouts for distribution but photocopying will not be available at the venue.
7. Region, system or organisation you are working in.
8. Brief background paragraph (50 words) about the presenter/s.
9. Support will be provided in the form of nominal writing scholarships for presentations that are successfully peer reviewed and published. Please indicate if you will write up your presentation as a paper to be submitted for review and possible publication in the UNE Journal TalentEd.
Due date for outline and registration: Friday April 25th, 2008.
