 TalentEd Annual Research Award: 2003
($500 + $250)

To encourage the communication of Australian research findings on gifted/talented children and their education, TalentEd is sponsoring an annual award for the best pieces of original research on some aspect of this field. Two awards will be offered: $500 for the research report judged to be most meritorious and $250 for the runner-up. The names and details of those successful will be recorded on an honour roll on the TalentEd Web site.
 
To be eligible for the 2003 award the research must be:
o completed during 2003, but may have commenced in an earlier year;
o original Australian research on an aspect of gifted/talented children or their education;
o reported in a summary of no more than 4000 words;
o the work of a researcher who has not been the previous recipient of this award;
o available for publication as a feature article in TalentEd;
o received by the Editors of TalentEd by 31 March 2004.
 
The research may be associated with a tertiary degree or may be an independent project. It may be the work of a single researcher or may be a small group project. Entries may be submitted at any time during the 12 months leading up to the closing date. TalentEd reserves the right not to make either or both of the major and minor awards in any given year.

TalentEd Annual Best Practice Award: 2003
($500 + $250)
To encourage the communication of examples of best practice in Australia on addressing the needs of gifted/talented children, TalentEd is sponsoring an annual award for reports of effective/innovative programs or provisions. Two awards will be offered: $500 for the best practice report judged to be most meritorious and $250 for the runner-up. The names and details of those successful will be recorded on an honour roll on the TalentEd Web site.
 
To be eligible for the 2003 award the practice must be:
o conducted during 2003, but may have commenced in an earlier year;
o a response to the needs of Australian gifted/talented children;
o reported in a summary of no more than 4000 words;
o the work of an educator who has not been the previous recipient of this award;
o available for publication as a feature article in TalentEd;
o received by the Editors of TalentEd by 31 March 2004.
 
The report may be the work of a single educator or may be a small group project. Photographs and work samples may be included in the report. The practice reported need not necessarily be single school based. Entries may be submitted at any time during the 12 months leading up to the closing date. TalentEd reserves the right not to make either or both of the major and minor awards in any given year.

 THE 'LONGEST LIPOGRAM' COMPETITION
Our challenge to children (aged 15 or under, at the time of their entry) is to produce the longest, and most interesting, story (or poem) that contains no letter 'e'. It has to be an original composition of the young writer and should be accompanied by a signed statement (from a teacher or parent) to verify this. The winner for 2004 will be the longest entry received by 24 December, provided it is also longer than the previous longest winning entry (ie 3,001 words). The prize for the winner in 2004 will be $150.
